Automotive Applications

Nanocrystalline growth
Nanocrystalline cores are specially well suited for RCD and EMC purposes, as well as for protective devices for personal safety in mobile charging devices and stationary wall boxes. Nanocrystalline cores and chokes are also well suited for motor bearing protection in the drive units of BEV or PHEV.  Efficient cores are critical for evs Main applications in automotive industry The automotive industry is increasingly requiring new technologies to accompany the many advancements, and e-mobility is pushing the development of new materials to enable the mass adoption of a full electric fleet worldwide. Nanocrystalline magnetics materials are key to enable some of the applications most required today bringing more efficiency and helping designers to develop more compact parts for: Automotive applications key trends and competitive advantages of nanocrystalline

High Power Density
Efficiency, compactness and lightness are key for EV manufacturers;
Nanocrystalline cores provide the highest power density and reduce size and weight of the cars.

Multiple approaches to EMI

Suppress noise right  at the source close to engine through specific filter, e.g. nanocrystalline CMC;
Shield target only, using protective material. Nanocrystalline also has potential here.

Electrification from 12V → 48V
Higher voltage drastically changes EMC requirements and will put pressure on manufacturers;
On-board EMI will become a top priority, positioning nanocrystalline as the best solution.

Faster charging 400 → 800V

Higher voltages of ultra fast charging will also strengthen safety requirements;
Nanocrystalline-based protective and safety devices will also play a key role.

Inverters and converters Nanocrystalline-based inverter technology is increasingly used in electric and hybrid electric cars to improve inverter performance and reduce EMI noise.
Contrary to Ferrite cores, Nanocrystalline cores secure safe and long-life operation due to their capability to reliably work even at a temperature from -40°C up to 180° C.
